Arcelormittal: ArcelorMittal starts digital consulting biz in India

BENGALURU: ArcelorMittal, the world’s second biggest steel maker, has established a digital consulting unit in India with the objective of helping the group’s diverse entities to transform digitally.
Navneet Singh, who was with Zensar Technologies for nearly 16 years, most recently as its automation head and business partner for digital transformation for consumer services, took over as CEO of ArcelorMittal Digital Consulting earlier this year.
Rahul Kumar, group CIO & CISO at ArcelorMittal, said the steel industry needs to catch up with other industries in digitalisation, so there’s a huge opportunity for the digital consulting unit. “ArcelorMittal is such a large group, it is present in 60 countries, it has 90-100 plants and mines, and we thought there was a need for a central entity that could help the entire group in their digitalisation journey,” he told TOI on a visit to India from Luxembourg, the company’s headquarters.
The $80-billion group, promoted by Lakshmi Mittal, has grown through acquisitions, and different entities are at very different stages of digitalisation. Some in Europe and Brazil are advanced, but many others are not.
