NEW DELHI: Equity benchmark indices on Friday started on positive note in early morning trade. BSE Sensex climbed marginally by 0.11% or 79.52 points to 73,237.76. Nifty as well was trading at 22,260.90, marking an increase of 43.45 points from its previous close.
Earlier on Thursday, Sensex and Nifty witnessed a rebound, with Nifty reaching an all-time high and Sensex surging over 500 points. IT, automobile, and technology stocks, were among the top gainers.
Sensex closed at 73,158.24 points, registering a significant increase of 535.15 points or 0.74%.
Among the Sensex stocks, 22 closed in green, contributing to the index reaching an intra-day high of 73,256.39 points.
Nifty also rose by 162.40 points or 0.74% to achieve its highest ever closing level of 22,217.45 points. During intra-day trade, the index reached a peak of 22,252.50 points, with 25 Nifty stocks ending the session on a positive note.
The BSE Midcap index saw a gain of 0.92%, while the largecap index climbed 0.81%, and the smallcap index rose by 0.54%.
In the Sensex pack, HCLTech registered the highest increase at 3.12%, followed by ITC at 2.73%, and M&M at 2.61%. TCS also saw a rise of 2.44%.
Other significant gainers included Tech Mahindra, Wipro, L&T, and Maruti.
On the flip side, stocks of major banks closed in the red, with IndusInd Bank witnessing a decline of 1.87%. HDFC Bank dropped by 1.28%, Kotak Mahindra Bank by 1.11%, and SBI slipped by 0.73%.
