Bank holidays April 2024: Banks across many states will remain closed on Monday, April 1, 2024. This closure is in accordance with the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the annual closing of accounts.
As per an ET report, banks will be closed for a total of 14 days across different states in the month of April, including Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays, as per the RBI holiday list.
The RBI classifies holidays into three categories: Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Bank Account Closing Holidays.
April 1, 2024, is designated as a Bank Account Closing Holiday, allowing banks to finalise their yearly accounts. However, it’s important to note that while most places will observe this closure, Mizoram, Chandigarh, Sikkim, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya will remain unaffected.

Rs 2,000 note exchange and deposit

Additionally, the Reserve Bank of India has announced that the exchange and deposit of Rs 2,000 notes will not be available on April 1, 2024. This temporary suspension is due to the annual closing of accounts. The facility will resume on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, as per RBI’s notification issued on March 28, 2024.
